What is an undertaking?

An Undertaking is a formal agreement between two parties in the context of an intervention order matter. It is an alternative to contesting an Intervention Order and can help resolve the situation without going through a full court process.

If both sides agree to an undertaking, the application for an intervention order is withdrawn (stopped).

Police cannot charge someone for breaching an Undertaking. If you breach an undertaking, no police charges are applicable. Breaches can, however, make it easier for the other party to apply for a formal Intervention Order in the future.
